TAOS PUEBLO The Taos Pueblo is located in the valley of a small tributary of the Rio Grande, and is believed to be approximately 900 years old. It is the oldest of the Taos communities, and is thought to have been built around AD 1300-1450. Much of the culture has been derived from the Anasazi Indian tribes. Since the 17th century, this has been the center of Native-American culture. It symbolizes the Indian resistance to external rule, since it played an important role in resisting the Spanish colonization. The Pueblo area is typically recognized by the dark beige adobe houses that are cubical, and are trimmed with blue and turquoise doors and windows. |
